Simple Things

You might remember from this post that I had some magic up my sleeves. It was simply this.

After going through such a difficult point in my life, I wanted to remind others that they are loved.

I did the only thing that I could think of. I took 27 roses (as I turned 27) and handed them out one by one to people who looked like they needed it. I gave the flowers to mostly women and a couple of men who said, "I'm taking this home to my wife." With it being a late Friday afternoon, they were exhausted from the week and hoping things would be better over the weekend.

Roses remind me of my mother and the kindness she has shown to so many people. Whenever someone has something to celebrate or has lost a loved one or needs to be remembered; she brings them roses.

Since I don't know that many people in New York, I shared with complete strangers. There are a few moments I'll never forget. Like the student who had a hard week from all her midterm exams and the lady who was struggling to raise her granddaughter. There was another woman who had almost given up on love, thinking that no one cared. We all need love and encouragement. If we look, there is always a way to share it. For that Friday, it was in the form of a rose.

Instead of the world giving me gifts, it was my way of giving a gift to the world.
