Allen Street

It's been over 10 years since my aunt first got an apartment on Allen Street. Ever since then, it has been one of my favorite places to be. It has been home to my much needed summer vacations, birthday trips and wanting-to-get-away moments.

You have no idea how happy I am to be so close and thank goodness, my aunt is happy to let me be there on the weekends, every now and again. It does my heart some good to have a little place to escape to.

These photos were taken right before the hurricane. I'm a little afraid to go back and see the damage that Sandy has caused. The Lower Eastside didn't have power until last Saturday and many places nearby are still without heat and hot water.

My heart aches and goes out to those who may be suffering which is why I'm going to ask you donate to the Red Cross, if you haven't already. New Yorkers are tough and we'll pull together through this but I worry about the cold days ahead.

Would you mind helping out? Please visit the Red Cross website and join in the efforts. Together, we can make a difference.

  1. You take great photos Lisa, I really enjoy coming to your blog and checking out your post! I think you should go back to see what has happened since the hurricane and take more pictures. Maybe if you do that then you'll be bale to inspire others to help out as much as they can. Just a thought! :-)
