Please note: I normally don't talk about politics on this blog. I have a whole separate blog where I share my journalism stories. I am an independent voter and don't belong to any party. With the election being on my thoughts, I couldn't help but want to share it with you. So if you're the type to feel offended, please come back later for my normal joyful posts.
For the longest time, I was undecided when it came to this year's election. I had always thought I would vote for President Obama again. He kept a couple of his promises that mattered to me. These promises being: children can now be covered under their parent's insurance until their 26 and the rate of student loans for undergrads was brought down to 3.4%.
Now with that in mind, there are issues. This being, before President Obama changed the way student loans were done, I was able to receive a large pell grant. The nice thing about a pell grant is that you don't have to pay it back. It is meant for lower income students to give them the opportunity to attend college.
The issue then came down to this, my pell grant was cut significantly. The rates on student loans were down, but I had to take out my first loan. Now, the price of schooling since has jumped significantly. The lower interest rate on student loans doesn't apply to graduate students. Many students my age are living with their parents because they can't find a job and that means they do need to be on their parent's health insurance. If they're one of the lucky ones who have a job, it doesn't pay enough and it's not even close to what they studied and hoped to be.
No matter the candidate, change needs to happen. I don't want to find myself as the unemployed graduate student.
Four years ago, I voted for Barrack Obama and felt wonderful about my choice. I even donated to his campaign like so many other Americans. Even now, I still receive all of his campaigns e-mails about voting for him. I always thought that I would vote for him again.
It came down to this. It was no mistake that on the first presidential debate, Mitt Romney was able to speak proficiently while the President stumbled over his words. Mitt Romney looked and felt the part of being a President. His points were clear and precise.
I also watched both of the Democratic and Republican conventions. I was touched by the following video:
I feel like no one can blame Obama for no jobs. This has been the case for many college students for YEARS! Seriously, I have a better job than some of my friends who went to college and they were never able to get into what they majored in. We graduated HS in 96 so really, how can he be to blame??
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! Neither candidate is what I was really hoping for, but I think Romney will be a change that is greatly needed. Anything to change some of the things that have happened in the past four years is welcome with me!
ReplyDeleteI agree! Miss you! You free for a skype chat or phone call next week? Maybe Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday morning?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video! I hadn't seen that before. Thanks for sharing.
