Hello readers!
I’m Nikki, guest posting from delovely details! I’m so excited to be a part of this project and while I thought I knew what I wanted to write about, life had other plans for me. I was planning on writing about taking donuts to firefighters and how to show appreciation. However, a simple act my husband did, has me wanting to talk about something else.
Today, I want to talk about the kindness you can accomplish when you get involved with a cause. About 2 years ago, my dad passed away very unexpectedly while needing a liver transplant. He never got that liver. Since his passing, I’ve slowly gotten involved with Donate Life, an organ donation organization.
My husband and I were recently invited to a luncheon through Donate Life to discuss different ways to bring about a social change on the view of organ donation and how to continue to raise funds for the cause. A simple idea one lady had, put a jar on your desk for spare change, enticed my sweet husband. Once we got home, at his request, we got to work on his jar for his desk.
Since he’s has the jar on his desk, about 2 weeks, he’s already gotten about 20 dollars in spare change. However, the impact has been greater than raising money for our team. The conversations my husband has had with his coworkers have been remarkable. Bringing about a social awareness is important, but being a listening ear is so much more valuable.
Coworkers, who usually talk about the mundane things in life at the water cooler, are now sharing stories of how organ donation has affected their own lives. We’ve gotten so many encouraging comments for what we hope to do and people have been more than excited to help us accomplish our goals.
Thank you Nikki! I am impressed with the kindness that your husband has shown. Readers, I have been part of Donate Life for years now. If you're not on their donor list, I highly would recommend you do so. You could help save someone's life. Don't forget though, there are other life saving ways you can donate such as Be The Match for bone marrow and of course, blood to the American Red Cross.
Nikki is passionate about life, love and crafting. For example, I need this print out for my holiday shopping. Plus, me as a soon-to-be mama gushed all over this sweet baby shower. Make sure you follow Nikki on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. Don't forget to check out her Etsy shop. I have been married for over 4 1/2 years now, but I want to order a custom hanger for my wedding dress! What a sweet gift it would make.
What's a cause that you're passionate about? I'd love to know!
