Keeping Gifts Simple

I'm all about making Christmas as simple as possible. Especially since this year, I have no choice. Being pretty much down and out most of the time because of this pregnancy has taught me a lot about what matters most. So even as it comes to our Christmas presents for each other, we're keeping things on and in the budget which will also make for a happier January.

Last year, I went overboard. I bought my family extravagant gifts and have been paying for it this year. The reality is almost everyone except for one, returned their presents. I spent all that time and energy digging for deals and scrimping every penny possible. Not this year. I'm not repeating the same thing and having my Christmas end in frustration.

I know many of you have seen around the internet that for immediate family members and children, they've started to follow this pattern of four gifts total: need, wear, read, want. I love this because you really get to enjoy what was given instead of being overwhelmed by it all. I don't know about you, but with only four things to get, it makes me think twice about what that person really does need, want, etc.

In case you're curious, I've included my list (and for the sake of my husband to give him ideas :).

Need: A stroller. Not just any stroller though. I need one that can outlast city walks and be quickly folded up in the back of taxi or taken down the stairs at the train station. I plan that little man and I will go on several adventures without Daddy so I can't count on him carrying things for me. I found this one at a sweet baby store in Brooklyn and several NYC mamas swear by it.

Wear: Maternity dress. Isn't this one from Boden stunning? I think that after being away from work, this number would make a great impression.

Read: Amy Tan's The Valley of Amazement. I LOVED Joy Luck Club. I've read reviews that this book is just as good or even better. It's a must on my reading list!

Want: Beautiful necklace with meaning. The Love You Infinity necklace from Vintage Pearl exactly captures it.

There you have it. Four simple gifts. I know I would be pleased to even just find one. Also, by keeping it simple, we have more to share this Christmas and will be picking a charity share our little extra with.

What does your family do to keep things simple?

xoxo
