Confidence is something I have been thinking about lately. In fact, in a job interview I even admitted that I was working on finding my confidence again. The person was impressed with my honesty and felt that it was a great goal. I went through what I consider a dark time and it only became worse after a person in a high position flatly said that my problem was that I didn't have any confidence. I was crushed and cried over it for awhile- but once the sun came up, I decided that I was going to do something about it.
And so from that moment, the list began. I made a list of all the things I had done in the past that took courage and because of that, built confidence. My list included things like speaking in front of a large crowd, singing a solo for over a thousand people, learning a new language in a foreign country, driving all the way across the US of A all by myself, starting over in a new city, taking strides to get my graduate degree despite student loans, killing a giant spider (fear of spiders), climbing a rock wall (fear of heights) and so on.
I came to learn that confidence was there all along and I needed to stand up for me. I need to stand up for who I am and what I believe in.
Confidence has nothing to do with beauty. Beauty comes because of confidence. It has to do with what's in your heart. If you put the right things in your heart and do the best you can, you'll stand strong.
Tell yourself today, you have talent. You have what it takes and you can do this.
I know that I can and for the days I feel like I can't, I have a sweet little bracelet to remind me (thanks Lisa!). Surround your world with everything that says, "I can do this!" Take steps forward for you.
xoxo

This is beautiful, as always. I think you're a lot stronger and more courageous than you know...I don't think I would have been able to do half of the things you have and still be walking around as a sane person. Don't even get me started on the killing a giant spider...I probably would have just passed out.
ReplyDeleteIs it too cheesy to say that I'm proud of you? Because if it is, too bad! I AM proud of you :)
Wow! Every single thing you just listed take an insane amount of confidence - this is an awesome post! Seriously encouraging. My husband tells me that I am flat out sexy when I'm confident AND that I can pull of any outfit with confidence. It's true. Confidence is beautiful and most importantly we find confidence in Jesus! Lovely post - love you sweet friend!
