Working on my resume has been taking up most of my free time lately. It's not that I'm looking for a new job, but it's the simple task of staying up to date. Plus, where I work, a new CEO just started. I bet she doesn't know what I can do or anything about me. A resume is a great way to say, "hey, here's everything I can do even if I don't do this already for you."
But the question is, what do you leave on or off your resume? There are a million articles on the subject, from how far do you list a past job to what do you write about yourself, and, since we live the social media days, do you use a photo or not? (If you put a photo on your resume they get to see the one you provide first and not the one that's on Facebook, is the argument).
I'm not sure. It's all pretty subjective, and everyone seems to have an opinion on the matter. Some companies look at it one way and another company can look at completely differently. It's amazing that some places even use computers to search for specific keywords.
The ultimate trick? Make it YOU. Make it look like YOU, make it sound like YOU. If it's not YOU, then they don't know whether you'll ultimately be a good fit because they don't know anything about you.
I can tell you now that I don't believe in spending hours upon hours at a job you hate. If you hate it or don't have any way to grow in your position, take a leap and quit! (Yes, easier said than done).
There's nothing like wasting time where you don't get to do what you love every single day. The key is to find a job where you get to be YOU every single day. It makes the days go by so much faster when you're doing something that you love and you can use that energy towards something amazing for the benefit of your company.
BE YOU.
xoxo
